During your visit to these off-the-beaten-path rural villages, you’ll share meals with the villagers and participate in village activities. The villagers are warm, welcoming and appreciative of your interest in seeing how they live. Whichever option you choose, we promise you a memorable time.
All itineraries are custom-designed. These itineraries are meant to be used as a guideline, to show you a sampling of the types of trips we can arrange. Your personal itinerary will be designed to suit your interests, trip duration, and budget.
Ruteng Pu’u Traditional Village
Price: USD $220 per person for minimum 2 persons
This 2-day, 1-night Village Life excursion includes a visit to the traditional village of Ruteng Pu’u. You will experience the daily life of the local people and beautiful countryside of the westernmost part of Flores Island. You may opt for a trek near Ruteng or visit Ruteng Recreation Park.
Day 1: Today’s full day excursion takes you into West Flores to Ruteng Pu’u Traditional Village. On the way you will visit Sawah Lodok (Spider Web Rice Field) in Cancar and then continue to Ruteng. Travel time is about 4-5 hours. You will have lunch in Ruteng and check-in at your hotel. After lunch you will visit Ruteng Pu’u and interact with the villagers. In the evening you will have dinner in Ruteng and return to your hotel.
Day 2: After breakfast you may opt to take a hike to the Tengkulese Waterfall, or hike to Golo Curu where you will enjoy a 360° panoramic view of the city of Ruteng, the sawah (wet-rice fields), and the surrounding hills. The other option is a visit to Ruteng Recreation Park. After your hike or visit to the park you will return to your hotel in Labuan Bajo.
West Flores Exploration and Tado Traditional Village
Price: USD $420 per person for minimum 2 persons
This amazing 3-day, 2-night tour includes a visit to Cunca Rami Waterfall, Sano Nggoang Crater Lakes, Golo Dewa Peak, Sawah Lodok, Cunca Wulang Canyon, Snake Palace Cave, Cecer Village, and Tado Village. You will experience the daily life of the local people and beautiful countryside of the westernmost part of Flores Island.
Day 1: Today’s full day excursion takes you into West Flores. You will visit Cunca Rami Waterfall where you can swim in the basin or just enjoy the waterfalls and surrounding nature. Next, you will continue on to Sano Nggoang Crater Lakes where you can have a therapeutic soak in the natural hot spring. Dinner and one night’s accommodation in a home stay in Nunang, the village near the Crater Lake.
Day 2: In the morning you will take a 30-minute trek up to Golo Dewa Peak for an aerial view of Sano Nggoang Crater Lakes and the spectacular landscape, observing the abundant wildlife and flora and fauna of the rain forest along the way. You will trek back to Nunang then continue on to Tado Village. Before arriving at Tado Village you will see Sawah Lodok, the spider web rice field. You will spend the rest of the day in Tado Village participating in ecotourism activities, and witness the Caci dance performance. Lunch, dinner, and one night’s accommodation in a homestay will be in Tado Village. You will indulge in traditional food prepared by your host family, and of course you will gain an even more profound insight into the everyday life of the villagers.
Day 3: After breakfast you will leave Tado Village to visit several sites on your way back to your hotel. The first site will be Snake Palace Cave, “Istana Ular,” where you will see the variety of snakes in the cave like pythons, green tree viper and cobras. Next is a drive along the mountains to Cunca Wulang Canyon for trekking through a tropical rain forest. Lastly, you will stop at Cecer Village for breathtaking panoramic views of western Flores and a beautiful sunset before returning to your hotel.
West Flores Exploration and Wae Rebo Traditional Village
Price: USD $430 per person for minimum 2 persons
This extraordinary 4-day, 3-night tour includes a visit to Snake Palace Cave, Sawah Lodok, Ruteng Pu’u Village, Liang Buah Cave, and Wae Rebo Village. You will experience the daily life of the local people and beautiful countryside of the westernmost part of Flores Island.
Day 1: Today’s full day excursion takes you into West Flores. You will visit Snake Palace Cave, Sawah Lodok (Spider Web Rice Field), and Ruteng Pu’u Traditional Village. Before arriving at your hotel a stop will be made at the local market. Dinner and one night’s accommodation in Ruteng.
Day 2: Today’s excursion takes you through the mountains to Denge where you will see panoramic views, villages, and rice terraces. On the way is a visit to Liang Buah Cave. Dinner and one night’s accommodation at a friendly Denge Home Stay. Spend the evening interacting with locals.
Day 3: In the morning you will take a 3-4 hour trek through a thick forest to Wae Rebo Village. The hike to Wae Rebo is one of stunning biological diversity: orchids, palms, and different ferns, and an impressive population of singing birds. You will reach the village at noon and have lunch there. In the afternoon you have the opportunity to experience the daily life of the local people, and if you choose to you can discover the natural surroundings by going for another walk and visit nearby plantations: coffee, vanilla, cacao, cashew nut, and clove plantations. Dinner and an overnight stay will be at the local villager’s guest house or you can stay at the nearby Waerebo Lodge.
Day 4: After having breakfast in Wae Rebo, you will hike back to Denge. Lunch will be provided in Denge. After lunch you continue the excursion back to your hotel, with some stops along the way if you so choose.
Prices are per person, based on two people traveling together on a double occupancy basis. Prices may be higher for solo travelers. Reduced rates are available for groups of five or more people. Prices are subject to change until arrangements have been confirmed. Prices are quoted and payable in U.S. dollars. Seasonal surcharges apply for hotel accommodations.
